Lewis Robinson

Head Coach | Women's Soccer

Coach Robinson is entering his fourth season in charge of the Saints. His teams have posted at 41-18-3 record (.685 winning %) with him at the helm. The Saints won the WHAC Tournament Championship in 2018 and have appeared in back to back NAIA National Tournaments. This past season the Saints, led by Robinson, set a new school record with 18 wins. 

Robinson came to Aquinas with a history of coaching success in the West Michigan soccer community. For six seasons, Robinson served as head coach for the Grandville High School girls' team, winning six district championships, three conference championships, and a regional title while finishing as State Runners-Up in 2013. He received the MSYSA Competitive Girls Coach of the Year Award for the state of Michigan in 2016. Robinson works as the Director of Coaching for Midwest United FC, and won a U16 Girls National Championship in summer of 2016. He has also coached for local clubs Georgetown Rangers, CATS and Alliance.

Coach Robinson received his USSF A License (the highest coaching license available in the US) in 2015. Robinson is on staff with MSYSA Coaching Education and is a part of the US Soccer Training Center Coaching Staff. He served as the head coach of the Grand Rapids FC Women's team during its inaugural season. Robinson served as the assistant coach for Grand Rapids FC men for two seasons and was named head coach in 2019.

Robinson was born and raised in Newcastle, England, but moved to Grand Rapids in 2005 to attend Davenport University. He played four years of collegiate soccer for the Panthers and received his MBA in Strategic Management from Davenport in 2013. He now resides in Kentwood with his wife Stephanie.


Luke Ruff

Head Coach | Men's Soccer

Coach Ruff is entering his second season at the helm of the Saints' men's soccer program, after posting a 5-8-6 debut season.

A native of Bradford, England, Ruff came to Aquinas after serving as an assistant coach for three years at NCAA DII Saginaw Valley State University. Ruff helped the Cardinals to tremendous success in his time there, winning GLIAC Championships in both 2016 and 2018. The Cardinals qualified for the NCAA Tournament all three seasons Ruff was on staff, including an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance in2018. Ruff helped coach 21 All-GLIAC players, 11 All-Region honorees, two Academic All-Americans, two Daktronics All-Americans, two GLIAC Freshman of the Year winners, a GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year and GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year in his time in Saginaw.

Prior to his time at SVSU, Ruff spent three years as an assistant coach at Northwood University, where he helped lead the Timberwolves to two GLIAC Tournament Championships and a regular season GLIAC title, while hosting two NCAA Tournament first round games. They were NCAA Regional Runners-up in 2015. At Northwood he helped guide six All-GLIAC and All-Region players as well as four Academic All-Americans and three Daktronics All-Americans. 

Ruff's collegiate playing career was spent at Northwood (2010-13), where he amassed an impressive list of honors. Ruff was a two-year captain and three-time ALL-GLIAC honoree. Twice he was 1st-team All-GLIAC and earned 3rd -team and 1st-team NSCAA All-Region honors. He was GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year his senior season. 

Coach Ruff currently also serves as the Director of Coaching for Nationals Soccer Club, a position he has held since 2016. Prior to that, he owned and served as Director of Coaching for Premier Soccer Group Mid-Michigan for four years. He holds USSF National C, USSF National D and USSF National E coaching licenses, as well as a Diploma in football educationand FA Level 2.
