Jason Buechler
Assistant Coach | Women's Soccer

Buechler comes to Aquinas after spending a season with the University of Northwestern Ohio as a Assistant Coach. Prior to UNOH, he served as the Academy Director for Park Valley United FC and progressed kids through a technical curriculum and developed kids to earn spots in the Minnesota United Development Academy. Buechler played semi-professionally with Minneapolis City SC following his college career at Bethany Lutheran College. He was a four-year starter and two-time All-Conference player for the Vikings. He currently holds his USSF D License and is actively working towards furthering his education.

Nate Van Ryan
Goal Keeper Coach | Women's Soccer

Nate Van Ryn played soccer at Calvin College where he was a part of teams that won 4 MIAA Conference Titles, 4 MIAA Tournament Titles, and went to the NCAA Final Four twice while compiling an overall record of 86-7-5. He was twice named a First Team All-Conference player and was a First Team All-American and the HERO Sports D3 Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper and Player of the Year in 2017. He is ranked 18th all-time for career goals against average in NCAA history (all divisions).

Van Ryn also works for Grand Rapids FC Women as the goalkeeper coach, Midwest United FC as a head coach and goalkeeper coach, and he is the founder of All American Goalkeeping. He currently holds the USSF E License.

Van Ryn graduated from Calvin College in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management with minors in Business and Spanish.


Jack McCarren
Grad Assistant Coach | Men's Soccer

Coach McCarren comes to Aquinas from Dublin, Ireland, by way of Pulaski, Tennessee. Coach McCarren graduated from Martin Methodist College in 2018 with a degree in Physical Education and Human Performance, emphasizing in Administration.

Coach McCarren was a part of the Martin Methodist squad that won the NAIA National Championship his freshman year in 2012. He was a three-time All-Conference honoree for the Redhawks, twice as a first-team selection. During his senior season in 2017, McCarren led the team with 14 goals, eight assists and four game-winning goals in 17 starts. In his career at Martin Methodist, Coach McCarren recorded 28 goals and 15 assists in 70 career appearances.
